Penitential Psalms: Confession Is Good for the Soul

There is something so real about the Psalms. Nothing is off limits. It’s almost as if the psalmist stepped into our minds and then wrote 150 songs of prayer and praise to reflect what he had seen. Joy and Lament Righteous Indignation and Repentance Revenge and Compassion Fear and Trust Doubt and Worship Athanasius, a 4th century bishop of Alexandria, explained it like this: “The Psalms have a unique place in the Bible because most of the Scripture speaks to us, while the Psalms speak for us.”
